Carey broke his silence about Harwick’s death with a short tweet on Monday. The 61-year-old posted a pic of himself with Harwick – a well-known therapist and author – and wrote: “I hope you’re lucky enough to have someone in your life that loves as much as she did.”

The beloved comedian and game show host also gave a statement to People magazine, telling the outlet that he and Harwick “had a love that people are lucky to have once in a lifetime.”

“She was a positive force in the world, a tireless and unapologetic champion for women, and passionate about her work as a therapist. I am overcome with grief. I would like to thank you in advance for giving myself and everyone who loved Amie privacy while we try to work through this tragic situation,” said Carey.

Carey and Harwick confirmed their engagement in January 2018, but they ended their relationship a few months later. Harwick died on Saturday, February 15th after police responded to a call about a “woman screaming” at a home in Hollywood Hills. When officers arrived, Harwick’s roommate told them The New Sex Bible for Women author was being assaulted by her boyfriend.

When police went to check the scene to find out what was going on, they found Harwick lying on the ground below a third story balcony. She was unresponsive, and the officers described her as being “gravely injured.”

In their press release, the police noted that Harwick’s injuries were consistent with a fall. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but was eventually pronounced dead.

The police investigation found evidence of a possible forced entry as well as a struggle. They later arrested Harwick’s ex-boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse and he was charged with her murder. He is currently being held on a $2 million bond.
